Interview with Mim
Prayer
In our passage today, Jeremiah 29, God calls on his people in exile to pray for the welfare of the city in which they find themselves. It is a remarkable command, not least because they are praying for those who captured them, brutally mistreated them and continued to mock them. They are called to put down roots in the city because they won’t be returning home for 70 years. But they are still to listen to God and be his distinct people in exile.
Jeremiah 29 is also a glimpse of what we are called to be and do, isn’t it? We are called to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. We are called to seek the good of those around us. We are called to be in the world, but not of the world.
So, as you gather together today and pray, here are some suggestions to guide your prayers:
- Pray for the city of Campbelltown and the wider Macarthur region
- Pray that our city will desire to hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus.
- Pray that many would seek God from the heart
- Pray that we will be bold and wise in our proclamation of Jesus
- Pray for opportunities to proclaim the gospel
- Pray for those in our city who are abused and vulnerable
- Pray that we might look for (and take!) opportunities to love our city by caring for those in need
- Pray that God would give us a broken heart for those around us who don’t know Jesus and are in deep need
- Pray for other churches in our city. Pray that they would be eager to seek the welfare and good of our city
- Pray for those who feel hopeless; pray that they would find hope in Jesus
- Pray that we would be distinctly God’s people in and amongst the world opposed to God. Pray that our lives would shine brightly in the midst of darkness.

Welcome
Prayer
Merciful Father, everlasting God, you alone are the one true living God; you alone are the foundation of our lives. We thank you for the quality of your Fatherly care, and ask you to have compassion on our broken world
We pray for those countries around the world ravaged by this dreadful virus. For those struggling with fear, anxiety and distress, for those overwhelmed, grieving the loss of loved ones. We thank you that Victoria’s slowing trend of coronavirus infections has continued. There must have been times when Premier Daniel Andrews (Victoria) became discouraged. Plant in his heart the seeds of hope in the Gospel. May a readily available vaccine for COVID-19 soon be available. We pray for the 2,000 people in Mexico who will soon be inoculated with the Russian vaccine.
We pray for those countries around the world ravaged by serious bushfires:
For California where firefighters are battling 30 large fires, and for the excessive heat and near-record number of bushfires blazing in Brazil.
We pray for those countries around the world ravaged by devastating floods:
With widespread construction and rubbish-clogged drains and waterways, most of suburban India is vulnerable to flooding at his time of year.
Lord have mercy on vulnerable families living in disaster-prone areas:
Feed the hungry, lift up the weak, comfort the fearful, heal the sick, reveal yourself to the needy. Give people everywhere grace and strength, and help them to know that you are near. Inspire in their hearts courage and complete confidence in your protection.
Lord and heavenly Father, you have revealed yourself as the strengthener of those who earnestly seek you. Let all those who are fearful rejoice in the Good News of the Gospel.
Give those of every tribe, language, people and nation an unshakeable faith. May they cast all their cares upon Jesus who cares for them. May they hear these words spoken in their hearts: “Come to me all you who labour and are heavy burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Hear our prayer for Australia: may our nation come to know that you are LORD, that you alone are God. May people everywhere rejoice in your presence and call on your name.
We are told in the Bible that God does not do less, but immeasurable more than all we ask, or even think that he is able to do. Do it again, do it today, do it in our hearts and lives. Thank you. Amen.

Welcome
Prayer
Father God, we thank you that you are the sovereign and infinite maker of heaven and earth and also the God of all compassion and comfort. “Give ear, O Lord to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace.” (Psalm 86).
We pray for our world, nation, city, neighbourhoods, and church. Lord, please heal the afflicted and strengthen those who have the responsibility to care for and help others. We ask in your mercy that you would grant wisdom to those who are working towards a cure for Coronavirus.
We look to you for guidance and strength. “Preserve my life…you are my God” (Psalm 86:2-3). We pray that you would enable us to walk by faith and have a growing confidence in you. Help us to be wise in taking whatever precautions are necessary to limit the virus’ spread and consider the needs of others above ourselves. We ask you would be drawing people to look for security in your Son Jesus Christ. Continue to guide us and give us the courage to humbly point people to the hope that is only found in Jesus.
Father we thank you that you didn’t just create us to be rescued from sin but to know the joy of your presence and love. “Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.” (Psalm 86:4). Thank you Father, that you give us yourself forever, and we ask you would enable us as your people to find our joy in you.
Father, “Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.” (Psalm 86:11). We ask that you would be at work in our lives through your Word and Spirit, so that your truth comes to life in us, that people see you in our priorities, relationships, and our hearts. Lord we often struggle with pride, but on the cross you made yourself of no reputation and gave up all your power and glory for us. The more I thank you and rejoice that you did that, the less I need to worry about my own honour and reputation, and who is approving of me or not.
Father, so often we forget to ask you for help and attempt to serve others in our own strength. Help us to work in the strength that you provide, that our lives are marked by the gospel. We ask God that you take what you are doing for us, and in us, and do something dramatic through us in the hearts and minds of our family, friends, and neighbours. Father, we want our faith to mean something to people who don’t know you. We pray that those who wonder if you even exist, would not just know that you are the one and only God, but that through your mercy they might come to know you and be saved.
Father we thank you that you listen to our prayers, in Jesus great name we pray, Amen.
