Prayer

Our Heavenly Father,

You are the creator of all people.  You have made us all in your image.  And yet over the last week, we have have been reminded of the division amongst people and the scourge of racism.  We’ve seen images of prayer and images of violence.  We’ve seen many leaders brandish Bibles but not be formed by it.  And this is just what we’ve seen; we know that see it all and it must grieve your heart.

Lord, we lament the state of our world.  We lament that the hearts of humans are so often marked by sin and we know this because this is true for us too.  We lament racial discrimination and violence, not as something that exists just overseas, but can and does exist in our very own country, community and hearts.  Lord, give us eyes to see and hearts that care. Humble us.

We pray for peace in our world.  We ask that all would acknowledge Jesus as Lord and seek to live under his Lordship.  We pray that our leaders and leaders all over the world would humble themselves and turn to you.  We pray that they would rule with justice and humility.

We thank you that in the Scriptures you reveal that our destiny is to be a people from every tribe, nation and tongue, gathered around your throne.  We pray that our church will be an ever-increasing picture of unity and diversity; united in Christ and diverse in background and culture.

Lord, we thank you that you are a God who sees the unpayable debt of our sin.  Thank you that Christ bore the cost on himself on the cross.  Please change us more and more.  Humble us by your word today, we pray.  Help us to see that we have nothing to boast in but Christ alone.  Help us to extend the grace to others that you have so lavishly given to us.

We pray this in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace,

Amen.
